Peggy's Cove

Peggy’s Cove is one of the most popular tourist attractions that Nova Scotia has to offer. Peggy’s Cove is famous for its shops, restaurants, history and of course the view. The barren and rugged landscape make this a truly unique area. It reflects Nova Scotia’s fishing culture with its colorful homes, wharves and famous lighthouse. The location is amazing, it is one of many coastal points in the province, and on a clear day you can experience the vast ocean and the waves crashing on the rocks.
I have been to Peggy’s Cove many times throughout my life, mostly to take friends that are visiting from out of town. Peggy’s Cove really is a tourist attraction; practically every time I have been there the rocks are dotted with people exploring the rocks and crevices along the coastline. This can be a deterrence, as on a nice day it is guaranteed to be busy with people, which makes it hard to park, eat in the restaurant and walk around. It is also a popular place for storm watchers, as the waves can be huge. Sadly, wave watchers have been swept into the ocean on more than one occasion.
I suggest to any first time visitors to Nova Scotia that Peggy’s Cove is a must see. For locals and residents of Halifax, Peggy’s Cove is still interesting and a great place to go when you want get out of the city. During the summer months beware that it will be busy, but when you get there you won't be disappointed.

  1. So beautiful! We went to Peggy's Cove when we were in Halifax. We drove a motor home out and slept at Peggy's Cove; when we woke up at like 6am with the sunrise it was incredible. There was not a another single person there, we had the entire place to ourselves. Within about 20 minutes though bus loads of tourists started showing up and the place was flooded.

We got some beautiful pictures though before they showed up, some are in frames in our living room, you would have never thought they weren't professional. I agree, it is a must-see!

  2. Hi Anna,

I work with Nova Scotia Tourism and I wanted to say thanks for being such a great ambassador for Nova Scotia. Peggy's Cove can be a busy spot but it is always beautiful. You are right to advise caution when scaling the rocks. But on a beautiful day, it's wonderful place to be. I know a lot of our visitors like to continue on along the south shore to places like Chester, Mahone Bay and Lunenburg, a UNESCO world heritage site. It's a great little day trip when you are staying in Halifax. Thanks so much for sharing what you love about Nova Scotia Anna!

  3. Although I haven't travelled to Nova Scotia since I was a little girl, I still have great memories of the beauty the province has to offer. When we were there, we too as tourists went to see Peggy's Cove and it's beauty still has me astounded to this day. Making this as you blog I think was a great idea Anna, as many Canadians probably have not had the opportunity to see how beautiful the East coast is and you are doing a great job of showing everyone what it has to offer!

  4. I went out East with my nan two years ago and we stopped at Peggy's Cove. The people there are so friendly and helpful. So beautiful and such a culture contrast compared to Toronto.

  8. My mom was born in Cape Breton and we are often heading out east for family reunions. Peggy's Cove is a must-see every time we visit. It has been a few years now though, so when I visit my brother in the 'Fax, I will make sure to head back to Peggy's Cove!
